In the 12th century, King Suryavarman II of the Khmer Empire aimed to build a grand stone temple on flat land as the capital and state temple of the Khmer Empire. Thus, he mobilized the entire nation and spent about 35 years on its construction. It is the best-preserved building among the Angkor monuments, renowned for its magnificent architecture and intricate carvings.
In 1992, UNESCO listed the Angkor monuments as a World Cultural Heritage site. Since then, Angkor Wat has become the centerpiece of the Angkor monuments and a stunning tourism icon for Cambodia.
In Siem Reap, Cambodia (approximately 5 kilometers from Angkor Wat), the Angkor Grand Theater underwent nearly two years of careful planning, design, and construction. Covering an area of 6,000 square meters, it can accommodate over 1,200 spectators at the same time, making it the most comprehensive and advanced performance theater in Cambodia and even Southeast Asia, meeting international professional standards. This grand theater is a tourism and cultural complex centered around theatrical performances, enhancing the urban image of Siem Reap and representing a new landmark tourism project in Cambodia.
Belt and Road Cultural Tourism Project
The large-scale situational stage performance "The Angkor Dynasty" is considered an artistic masterpiece of cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Cambodia. It is the first "Belt and Road" cultural performance project to be launched overseas from China. "The Angkor Dynasty" is collaboratively created by the Deyang Acrobatic Troupe Co., Ltd. in Sichuan Province and Jiaheng International (Cambodia) Cultural Tourism Investment Co., Ltd., led by Zhou Xiaoheng, the head of the Deyang Acrobatic Troupe, with a total investment of approximately 200 million RMB, creating an international cultural feast together!
A powerful cast and crew
The production brings together the creative inspirations of numerous artists from China and Cambodia, including those in literature, acrobatics, dance, music, stage design, costumes, and stage technology. Utilizing modern high-tech methods and exquisite artistic expression, it presents the audience with an audiovisual feast through the clever combination of acrobatics, dance, and animal circus performances. It depicts the natural beauty of the tropical rainforest during the Angkor period, the great maternal love nurtured by Tonle Sap Lake, the heroic and tragic aspects of neighboring wars, and the hardworking wisdom of people rebuilding their homes. Throughout the creative process, the continuous exchange and collision of Chinese and Cambodian cultures greatly enhanced the artistic appeal of the stage play.
Under the direct guidance of team leader Zhou Xiaoheng, the jazz sound team communicated multiple times with the design team and discussed extensively with music producer Liu Sha. They combined the storyline with the actual conditions of the theater, ultimately deciding on a 7.1 channel sound system. Using Cubase and Waves software, they independently processed each audio track. Additionally, the LTC digital coding we developed allows for synchronized execution of sound, lighting, video, and stage effects. The stage design of the "Angkor Dynasty" scenario is incredibly realistic and detailed, featuring a genuine scene of torrential rain on stage, creating a true audiovisual feast for the audience through the integration of sound, light, and electricity.
